Located within the Robert W. Franz Cancer Center in Portland, Oregon, the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute, a division of Providence Cancer Institute, is a world-class research facility founded by Walter J. Urba, M.D., Ph.D., director and endowed chair of cancer research, and a team of internationally-known researchers. Since 1993, their main area of investigation is cancer immunotherapy, a specialized field of study focused on harnessing the innate power of the immune system to cure cancer. With a research team of more than 200, the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute garners over $10 million annually in federal, private and sponsored research funding.
